The Dutch are famous for their cookies, especially Speculaas. Speculaas are thin, very crunchy, slightly browned and, most significantly, have some image or figure (often from the traditional stories about St. Nicholas) stamped on the front side before baking.

Another popular Dutch cookie are Stroopwafels. A stroopwafel is a waffle made from two thin layers of baked batter with a caramel-like syrup filling in the middle.
